Each person’s individual strengths, passions and ambitions are what makes FleishmanHillard UK an incredible agency, a diverse talent pool of creative minds solving complex communications challenges and a certified ‘Best Place to Work’.

We asked senior designer, Davide Santi-Brooks about his experience working in our design studio, Ensemble Studio, what new skill he’s flexed in lockdown and for some advice for others trying to get into the creative industries.

Hi Davide! What has been your new work from home ritual?

Going into the office, in real life! It’s a great way to break up the week. I enjoy a walk to work and socialising with the wider team. The rule change is hard, but we’ll all readjust again. Best of all though it’s great seeing people I’ve only met through video calls in real life and being mesmerised by their height.

What new skill have you flexed in lockdown?

I’ve always loved cooking, but have extended that to making chilli sauces, and pizza at home.

What shows have you been binging on lately?

I’ve been a latercomer to Stath Lets Flats. It’s great. Other binges include Grand Designs, What We Do In The Shadows, and the Food Network, in general.

What do you love about working at FH?

Although FH is a large agency it still manages to feel like a tight-knit and very friendly environment to work in.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

Every day starts with a coffee, then either a morning briefing or a catch up with the wider team, then a few hours of concentrated design time with catch-ups and direction to steer projects and bring them to life.

What’s the most valuable skill used in your role?

Although our job as designers is visually focused, good communication is still the most valuable skill.

What is the piece of work you’ve created at FH that you’re most proud of?

Working on the branding and initial creative for Ensemble Studio. Seeing that come to life around me in the studio has been really exciting.

How do you describe your job to your family?

I never know how to start, but it usually ends up with the line, “Basically, I make things look pretty”.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

My role is multidisciplinary, which means I’m able to work across a few disciplines of design. Using a range of my skills within one project is a great feeling. I love variety within my work.

What’s your advice to someone wanting to get into the industry?

I’d say to be as involved and passionate about your field as possible, but to keep an open mind. Try a range of disciplines and don’t rush to specialise too soon.

What’s your go-to karaoke tune?

There are so many, but without fail on the set list will be ‘Life is a Prayer’ by Madonna, and ‘Breaking the Law’ by Judas Priest. Eclectic.
