WEBINAR: Overcoming the Language of Discrimination in the Creative Industries.

Join us on Friday 4th November 2022, 9:00-10:30 AM (GMT) for a panel discussion on accent and language discrimination in the creative industries.

Accents and use of language are often seen (mistakenly) as a marker of education and socio-economic background.

In PR and other creative industries, this can result in classism, impacting career access and progression, limiting the potential of creative work.

Creative Access, a leading social enterprise specialising in diversity and inclusion have partnered with FleishmanHillard UK to commission a research study into accent and language discrimination, and the associated stereotyping, with over 2,000 people in PR and the wider creative industries surveyed.

During this free virtual event, we will launch the research finding and discuss how employers in the PR and creative industries can work to overcome this discrimination.

We will be joined by a panel of experts spanning linguistics and diversity, and lived experience of language discrimination, including:

  • Ben Levine, Senior Partner & Head of Socioeconomic Employee Resource Group at FleishmanHillard
  • Devyani Sharma, Department of Linguistics, Queen Mary University of London
  • Rochelle Chinn, Marketing and Comms Co-ordinator, Creative Access
  • Elonka Soros, Development Director, Creative Access (Panel chair)

This event will be of particular interest to those with responsibilities or involvement in HR & recruitment, DE&I, corporate social responsibility and ESG.
